What are the India Visa Passport Requirements?

  • Provide an electronic or scanned copy of your ordinary Passport.

What Information Should Be Visible on Your Passport to Meet the Indian e-Visa Requirements?

  • The place of issue, Passport number, issue date, and expiry date should also be visible.

How to Ensure Your Passport Meets the Requirements for Indian e-Visa?

If you are planning to visit India, you need to apply for an Indian e-Visa, and to do so, you must make sure that your Passport meets the Indian Visa Passport Requirements.

1. Indian Visa Passport Requirements for Passport Scan

When you apply for an Indian e-Visa, you need to upload a scan or electronic copy of your Passport that meets certain specifications. To avoid rejection of your application, follow these guidelines:

  • You can use your phone camera to scan or photograph your Passport. It does not have to be taken with a professional scanner.
  • The image should be clear, high-quality, and in high resolution.
  • You can upload your passport scan in PDF, PNG, or JPG format.
  • The scan should be large enough to be clear and legible. The minimum resolution is 600 pixels by 800 pixels.
  • The size of your Passport scan must not exceed 1 MB or 1 Megabyte, which is the maximum allowed size.
  • The scan should not be blurred, in black and white or mono, too dark or too light, dirty, smudged, noisy, or low-quality. It should be in landscape mode and straight, not skewed. There should be no flash on the image.
  • The Magnetic Readable Zone (MRZ) at the bottom of the Passport should be visible.

2. Passport Place of Birth and Place of Issue

When filling out your Indian e-Visa application, enter your place of birth exactly as shown on your Passport. Do not be more specific. If your place of birth has been submerged into another town or is known by another name, still enter exactly what your Passport says. For the place of issue, enter the issuing authority of your Passport as it is mentioned on your Passport. For example, if you are from the USA, enter USDOS. For all other countries, enter the place of the issue mentioned in your Passport.

3. Passport Image vs. Passport Photograph

Your passport image can be different from the passport-style photograph of your face that you upload on your Indian e-Visa application.
